At this very moment,
- More than 800 million people are starving. Every 3.6 seconds, someone dies of starvation as a result of dire poverty. Usually it is a child under the age of five, and in the next seven seconds, another hungry child under five will die.
- Worldwide, 1 in 4 children do not get the nutrition they need.
- Over 9 million people die worldwide each year because of hunger and malnutrition. Between five and six million of them are children.
This means that on any given day, hunger is the main cause of death for about 25,000 people - Source
